Project Presentation in Uganda @ Yamasen Japanese Restaurant (Kampala, Uganda)
In a certain area of the Ugandan city of Nansana, household trash continues to be dumped in the square. What I saw in this land, which will likely collapse completely in a few years, were children who kept playing. To understand their lives, I too kept playing. I built trust through drawing, singing, and dancing. Then, I wanted to experience together what they were seeing.
Therefore, this work captures the footage of us climbing a hill together after I asked, “Please tell me your favorite place.” The children advised me to put the camera away because we'd be made to run up seemingly endless steep slopes, and sometimes even targeted. What remains for us is simply the time spent seeking the view we wanted to see, the wonder it brought, and above all, the fact that we walked together.

ウガンダのナンサナという都市のとある土地では、広場に生活ゴミが投棄され続けている。数年後には完全に破綻してしまうであろうこの土地で私が見たものは、遊び続ける子どもの姿だった。彼らの生活を知るために、まずは私も遊び続けた。絵を描き歌い踊る中で信頼関係を築いた。それから、彼らの見ているものを一緒に体感したいと思った。
それゆえ本作は、「あなたのおすすめの場所を教えてください。」と伝えて、ともに丘に登るまでの映像を収めている。果てしないように思える急な坂を登り、走らされ、時には狙われるからカメラをしまうといいと子どもたちから助言される。私たちに残るのは、ただ見てみたい景色に出会うための時間とその驚き、何より私たち自身がともに歩いたという事実である。
