"Shinobazunoike Pond & Hari-chan: An Overview I"
Starting May 21, Sansaki-zaka Cafe will host "Shinobazu Pond & Hari-chan: An Overview I" by artist Hodaka Nomura.
Nomura has been conducting a long-term research project centered on the "Duck Hariko" (paper-mâché duck)—a symbol of the 1949 movement to protest the reclamation of Shinobazu Pond—affectionately referring to it as "Hari-chan." This exhibition reconfigures the records and creative process of the "Hari-chan" project through documentation, talks, and workshops. During the exhibition period, a mural themed after "Hari-chan" will also be created live on the exterior wall of the cafe.
Exhibition Statement
In 1949, a "Duck Hariko" measuring over three meters tall was constructed at Shinobazu Pond. Beneath its charming appearance lay a complex history as a symbol of protest against plans to fill in the pond.
Drawn to its charismatic presence—one that instinctively makes you want to call it "Hari-chan"—I collaborated with many people to recreate this "Duck Hariko" after a gap of approximately 70 years.
"Shinobazu Pond & Hari-chan: An Overview I" showcases the documentation of that research and production. It serves as a hub to expand the narrative through dialogues such as talks and workshops. I invite you to join me in experiencing a moment where time and space collapse, layering history onto the everyday landscapes we usually gaze upon without a second thought.
「不忍池・ハリちゃん概説Ⅰ」
さんさき坂カフェでは、5月21日より野村穂貴「不忍池・ハリちゃん概説Ⅰ」を開催します。
野村穂貴は、1949年の不忍池埋立反対運動を象徴する「アヒルの張子」を、いつしか「ハリちゃん」と呼びながら、継続的なリサーチプロジェクトを行ってきました。本展では、「ハリちゃん」をめぐる活動の記録と制作過程を、ドキュメンテーション、トーク、ワークショップを通して再構成します。会期中には、「ハリちゃん」をテーマにした壁画の公開制作も、カフェ外壁にて行われます。
展覧会ステートメント
1949年、不忍池に3メートル超の「アヒルの張子」が作られた。その張子は、可愛らしさと裏腹に、池の埋立計画への抗議の象徴という重層的な背景を持つ。つい「ハリちゃん」と呼びたくなるその魅力に惹かれ、多くの人々の協力を得て、約70年越しに「アヒルの張子」を制作した。「不忍池・ハリちゃん概説Ⅰ」ではそのリサーチと制作の記録をドキュメンテーションとして展示し、トークやワークショップといった対話を通して物語を広げる拠点を作る。普段何気なく見つめている風景に、時代も空間も飛び越えた瞬間が重なるその時間を、共に分かち合ってみたい。
